Presentation Guidelines

Instructions for Presenters: Oral Presentation

All oral presentations will be scheduled within a 15 minute time slot. Please prepare a 10-11 minute presentation, so we can allocate 4-5 minutes for questions and transitioning between speakers. We ask that you present your work using a powerpoint presentation. We have found that the assertion-evidence approach of giving presentations is very effective for the audience and the presenter and encourage you to consider this format. To help you with this, we provide a presentation template provided through Microsoft Office. You can download this powerpoint template here. Note that this template uses a 16 x 9 ratio (wide screen). If you are not familiar with the assertion-evidence approach, you can watch Michael Alley’s YouTube videos: 1. Rethinking Scientific Presentations: The Assertion-Evidence Approach; 2. Assertion-Evidence Slides for a Research Talk; and 3. Attaining Confidence in Your Scientific Presentations

Helpful information, including the full conference schedule with the time you will be presenting, is available under the program tab of the conference website. You can locate your presentation time by searching for your name. Please let us know if you do not see your name. Once the final conference schedule is published, a dropbox link will be shared with you via email where you can upload your presentation. We will also have a speaker room at the conference where you can upload a final version of your presentation up to a day before your scheduled presentation.

Don’t forget to register to secure your presentation spot at the conference! Please remember to upload your proof of COVID-19 vaccination during registration! We recommend booking housing accommodations as soon as possible.

Instructions for Presenters: Poster Presentation

All posters will be displayed at the Michigan League Ballroom. You will need to print and bring a hard copy of your poster to the venue. While we encourage you to print your poster before your travel, you have the option to print it in Ann Arbor at FedEx Office Print & Ship Center Stores (three options in Ann Arbor, one is walking distance from the conference venue) or at Office Depot/OfficeMax Stores (two options in Ann Arbor, none are walking distance from the conference venue). We do not have pricing information available and do not know the wait time for printing.

You can consider using the following poster template to prepare your poster. We suggest utilizing large figures and images, limiting text, and clearly stating the outcome of your work. Posters should not be larger than 3 ft (height) x 4 ft (width) (91 cm x 121 cm) (landscape orientation). Posters over this size will not fit on the display. Pins to hang the posters will be provided at the venue.
